?Michelle Bachmann gives voice to the right’s darkest impulses | Crooks and Liars
I feel sad that I lived in the area for 10 years that elects this trash. She doesn’t deserve to be representing anybody in govt.

Nice pot shot at those of us who still live here, Steve. While you are ashamed of us, I should note that I live in a district where I’m represented by a conservative mayor, DFL State Representative, DFL State Senator, GOP Congresswoman, and one of each DFL and GOP US Senator. I’d like to think that you’d actually give credit to a group of people who tend to vote issues, who they like, or - in some cases - the least of two bad choices, instead of simply voting lock-step down the party line either way.
Does it scare me every time my Congresswoman opens her mouth? You betcha. Now lets hear ya roast some of your current representation and what problems they have.
Side note (not related to Steve’s post) - Nothing ticks me off more in politics these days than the idea coming from both “sides” that anyone who opposes their view is an idiot. This division and partisanship is going to adversely affect us more than it already does today.

The problem is that Michelle Bachmann is spewing nothing but hate. It’s close to McCarthyism and McCain/Palin are also treading on thin ice in that arena.
If you can honestly say that Bachmann represents you, well then you are just propagating hate. (Not saying you do, but just in general, for anyone)
I’ll agree that anywhere you go there are problems with the elected officials, and you will probably see me beat some of them down from this area soon enough.
That said, I haven’t had a chance to vote here yet, so I can’t really blame myself for electing anyone :)
Like you said, if you can find someone to represent you on the issues, then that is great. Not saying I’d agree with you on the issues :)
Finally, if any elected official from any side of the aisle was saying the stuff she is saying, and it was from where I lived for a while, I would call them out on it as well.

I agree with your assessment of her comments in this interview. Beyond that, it seems she has an incredible ability to make a fool of herself repeatedly.
My real disagreement with your post is your shot at the people of this area, which you were one of yourself not too long ago. Your first sentence comes off as being ashamed to have associated yourself with a community where you happened to spend a fair amount of your life, made a friend or two, and created a few memories.
As for being represented by the elected officials, each of those I list represents me, whether I voted for them or not and whether I agree with them or not. I communicate my thoughts to each of them where appropriate, and they all view me as their constituents - whether I voted for them or not. They all appreciate the input and feedback. While we don’t always win and get who we want in each office, that doesn’t release us from dealing with those who have been selected by a majority of the voters. On that same thread, it is my belief, then, that you are represented by the elected officials in the community you live even though you didn’t get the opportunity to vote for them.
No, we don’t have the same political views, but we’ve had some good talks along those lines and I always feel better informed about all issues discussed when we’re done. That’s why your post caught me off guard - it’s not consistent with the Steve I know.

One thing I forgot to say in the last comment and it probably explains it. Central MN is better than that. I guess I expect more than that. It’s better than hate filled politicians.
