I guess I’d encourage you to learn how to configure your applications. You having your other software improperly configured really has nothing to do with Vista, or even Microsoft — it’s really you left holding the bag. You may want to browse their configurations for ways to disable some of those notifications. But that’s besides the point of this post. I had to respond simply because I’m tired of inept users blaming Microsoft for anything going wrong with their machines.

Back on topic: I, too, have this appearing repeatedly in a user’s system tray at work. I’ve been trying to find a way to simply disable it, but the only instructions on TechNet say to use mspc.msc, which is nowhere to be found on the box. I’d love to know the next-best workaround. I’ll be doing further investigating and I’ll try to remember to get back here and post a follow-up for any other stragglers who wander in.

I just want my computer to work without all these rediculous pop-ups showing up all the time. Microsoft this, update that, Norton’s CEO just had a baby, something’s trying to ping your computer, blah blah blah, pop-up after pop-up after pop-up, and instead of doing work I’m constantly interrupted by yet another pop-up to do something or buy something, or who the hell knows what else!!!!!

Vista really sucks the big one. At least with XP it was possible to shut these things off permanently, but with Vista there doesn’t seem to be a way to get rid of these things. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh! Vista was mis-spelled — it’s supposed to be like this: Virus

I hate Vista.
It wastes my time.
It repairs itself many times when I boot (so I’m always afraid to reboot, but am forced to anyway when my new computer with 4 GBs of RAM and QuadCore 3 GHz processor and 1 TB SATA drive crashes into a blue screen of death).

What the hell is going on Microsoft? Are you trying to put yourselves out of business?

Words cannot describe the levels of frustration I’m having with this. At least things work better (crash less) when I use OpenOffice.Org and Opera and Firefox Thunderbird. It still crashes sometimes though.

Thanks for letting me rant. I’ll probably have a need to rant again in a few weeks if I’m still fighting with this garbage. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
